Dynamic Belief Hierarchies

چکیده
In this paper we introduce and formalise dynamic belief hierarchies. We give a formal deenition of beliefs, which requires that they are coherent; that is, that each belief is jointly consistent with every other belief which the agent considers at least as reliable. Thus an agent's beliefs cannot be deened independently, but only with reference to the agent's existing belief hierarchy. We then show how preferential entailment can be used, in conjunction with the rationality constraints on beliefs, to formalise the rational revision of beliefs and belief hierarchies. We then discuss the relationship between our theory and the AGM theory of belief revision. Finally we discuss resource-bounded reasoning.

Dynamic Obligation Hierarchies
Typically agents have obligations of diiering importance. Consequently we give a hierarchical deenition of obligations, according to which an agent's obligations form a coherent hierarchy and new obligations are de-ned with reference to it. We then show how preferential entailment can be used to formalise the persistence and revision of obligation hierarchies.
متن کاملDynamic Goal Hierarchies
In this paper we introduce and formalise dynamic goal hierarchies. We begin with a formal definition of goals, according to which they are rational desires. In particular, we require that an agent’s goals are coherent; that is, that the agent believes that each goal is jointly realisable with all of the goals which the agent considers to be more important. Thus an agent’s goals form a hierarchy...
متن کاملUniversally Rational Belief Hierarchies
In a recent paper, Tsakas (2012) introduced the notion of rational beliefs. These are Borel probability measures that assign a rational probability to every Borel event. Then, he constructed the corresponding Harsanyi type space model that represents the rational belief hierarchies. As he showed, there are rational types that are associated with a non-rational probability measure over the produ...
متن کاملEpistemic equivalence of extended belief hierarchies
In this paper, we introduce a notion of epistemic equivalence between hierarchies of conditional beliefs and hierarchies of lexicographic beliefs, thus extending the standard equivalence results of Halpern (2010) and Brandenburger et al. (2007) to an interactive setting, and we show that there is a Borel surjective function, mapping each conditional belief hierarchy to its epistemically equival...
متن کاملUniversal type structures with unawareness
Infinite hierarchies of awareness and beliefs arise in games with unawareness, similarly to belief hierarchies in standard games. A natural question is whether each hierarchy describes the player’s awareness of the hierarchies of other players and beliefs over these, or whether the reasoning can continue indefinitely. This paper constructs the universal type structure with unawareness where eac...
